How to Take a Screenshot on MacBook (macOS)

MacBooks are known for their ease of use – and taking screenshots on a Mac is no different. You have several ways to capture your screen – whether you want the full display or just part of it.

Let’s take a look at how to take screenshot on MacBook.

1) Capture the Entire Screen

Press Command + Shift + 3 to capture your entire screen. The image will be saved to your desktop instantly. This method works whether you have multiple screens or just one.

2) Capture a Selected Area

If you only want to capture a part of your screen, press Command + Shift + 4. Your cursor will shift to a crosshair – allowing you to click and drag over the area you want to screenshot.

Once you let go – the image is saved to your desktop.

3) Capture a Specific Window

First, press Command + Shift + 4, then tap the Space bar. Your cursor will change to a camera icon.

over it over any window and click to capture just that window. This is useful when you only need to grab one part of your screen.

4) Screenshot Toolbar (macOS Mojave and Newer)

Press Command + Shift + 5 to bring up the screenshot toolbar. This toolbar gives you even more options like recording your screen or selecting specific portions.

You can choose to capture the entire screen – a window or a portion of the screen.

All screenshots on Mac are saved to the desktop by default. If you prefer a different location – macOS allows you to change where screenshots are saved through the screenshot toolbar.
