How to take a screenshot on Android

Fast method for most phones: press Power + Volume Down together for one second. The screen flashes and a preview appears.

Works on Samsung, Pixel, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO, Motorola, Nothing, Vivo, iQOO, Huawei, Sony, Asus and more.

Quick steps

  1. Open the screen you want to capture.
  2. Press Power + Volume Down at the same time. Hold for one second.
  3. Wait for the flash or sound. A small preview shows up.
  4. Tap the preview buttons to crop, draw, or share.
If the power menu opens, press the buttons a bit faster or change the power-button action in settings.

Take a long screenshot

After the capture, look for a button labeled Capture more, Scroll, or a down-arrow icon. Tap it to extend the image. Keep tapping until you reach the end of the page.

The extend button shows right after the screenshot.

Ways to capture without buttons

Quick Settings tile

Open the shade. Tap the Screenshot tile. If you do not see it, tap the edit icon and add it.

Google Assistant

Say “Take a screenshot”. You can also press and hold the power button on many phones to open Assistant.

Three-finger swipe

Common on OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, Motorola, Xiaomi and others. Turn it on in Settings. Then swipe down with three fingers.

Palm swipe on Samsung

Go to Settings → Advanced features → Motions and gestures → Palm swipe to capture. Swipe your hand across the screen.

Names of menus can vary a little by model and Android version.

Brand steps

Samsung Galaxy

  1. Press Power + Volume Down.
  2. For long shots tap the double-arrow Scroll icon.
  3. Palm swipe method in Advanced features.

Google Pixel

  1. Press Power + Volume Down.
  2. Tap Capture more to extend and crop.
  3. Voice: “Take a screenshot”.

OnePlus, Oppo, Realme

  1. Press the button combo.
  2. Turn on 3-finger screenshot in Gestures.
  3. Use Scroll after capture for long shots.

Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO

  1. Press the button combo.
  2. Set a gesture or shortcut in Additional settings.
  3. Quick Ball can add a Screenshot shortcut.

Motorola

  1. Press the button combo.
  2. In the Moto app turn on Three-finger screenshot.

Vivo, iQOO

  1. Press the button combo.
  2. Use S-capture or Super screenshot for rectangle and long shots.

Huawei

  1. Press the button combo.
  2. Two knuckle taps to capture. Draw an S with a knuckle for a long shot. Turn it on in Shortcuts and gestures.

Sony and Asus

  1. Press the button combo.
  2. Power menu may show a Screenshot button.

Fix common problems

Blocked by app
Some banking, streaming, or work apps block screenshots. Try the same page in a browser or use the screen recorder if policy allows it.
Incognito in Chrome
Chrome may block screenshots in Incognito. In Chrome settings search for Incognito screenshots and turn it on.
Buttons do not respond
Use the Quick Settings tile, a gesture, or Assistant voice.
Storage full
Clear old media or move files to cloud storage, then try again.

Where your screenshots are saved

Open the Photos or Gallery app and open the Screenshots album. On storage the folder is usually Pictures/Screenshots or DCIM/Screenshots.

Edit or share

  1. Tap the preview or open the image from your gallery.
  2. Use markup to crop, draw, blur, or add text.
  3. Tap Share to send it by chat, mail, or other apps.

FAQ

How do I take a long screenshot?

Right after the capture, tap Capture more or Scroll and extend until you reach the end.

Can I screenshot with broken buttons?

Yes. Add the Quick Settings tile, turn on a gesture, or use Assistant voice.

Why does the phone say I cannot take screenshots?

The app or work profile is blocking it. Use a browser view or the screen recorder if the rules allow that.

Where are screenshots saved?

Photos or Gallery → Screenshots. Folder path is usually Pictures/Screenshots or DCIM/Screenshots.
