Series X|S controller (Share button)

1. Tap the Share button once to take a screenshot.
2. Hold the Share button to start a video recording (release to stop).
3. A toast confirms the capture. You can open it to share or manage.

You can remap the Share button actions in Settings → Preferences → Capture & share.

Xbox One controller (no Share button)

1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
2. Press Y to take a screenshot. (Press X to record a video.)

This works on Xbox One and also on Series X|S if you prefer the guide method.

Find and share your screenshots

• On console: open Captures (Guide → Capture & share → Recent captures) to view, delete, or upload.
• On phone: open the Xbox app → Library → Captures to view and share.
• Upload/sharing: you can upload to the Xbox network, share to friends, or copy to OneDrive if set up.

Capture settings

1. Go to Settings → Preferences → Capture & share.
2. Pick what you can capture, video length, resolution, and auto-upload behavior.
3. Choose where to store captures (internal storage, external drive, or network upload options).

Some games or apps can block captures. Video apps often block them because of content rights.

FAQ

My screenshot didn’t save — why?

The game or app might block captures, storage might be full, or captures may be disabled. Check Settings → Capture & share.

Can I take 4K or HDR screenshots?

Yes on supported games and consoles, but sharing may convert or downscale. The Xbox app may not show HDR previews correctly.

Where exactly are screenshots stored?

They live in the console’s capture storage and show under Recent captures. If auto-upload is on, they also appear in the Xbox app. You can move or copy them to OneDrive.

Can I map a different combo to take screenshots?

On Series X|S, remap the Share button in Capture & share. You can also use guide → Y any time.

Do captures work in media apps like Netflix?

No. Most streaming apps block screenshots and video capture.
